Advantages of LED strip with 24V voltage
When planning lighting, in most cases, we recommend choosing a 24-volt LED strip. This recommendation is based on Ohm's law. In our case, the higher the voltage, the lower the resistance and current.
Why 24 volts, not 220, because the voltage will be even higher? Because 24 is significantly safer than 220.
Practical advantages of using 24V LED strips over 12V analogs:
- Longer service life - the strip heats up less, which prolongs the life of the LEDs.
- 24V strips create a uniform glow along the entire length. With 12-volt strips, there are often cases when at the end of a 5-meter section the LEDs shine dimmer than at the beginning (at the point of connection to the power supply), as a result, you have to solder the wires and connect from both ends.
- To connect a 24V strip, you will need a noticeably smaller cross-section or length of the power/control cable. For example, a 4-core wire is connected to the RGB and, depending on its length, the cross-section of each core can be 1.5-2.5 square mm, and there can be quite a lot of such wiring. Accordingly, the use of 24V lighting systems will reduce financial costs as a result of savings on the cross-section of the cable.
- Twice as many 24V LED strips can be connected to lighting controllers, dimmers, decoders, etc. Most modern control devices have a working voltage range of 12-36 volts and a certain output (throughput) power. Any LED strip has a power consumption in watts per 1 m, which is multiplied by the number of meters required to organize the backlight. Based on the results of the total power obtained, the control equipment is selected. For example, let's take similar 12 and 24 volt strips, they will have the same power consumption, equal to 10 W / m. If we take a dimmer with an output (at 12V) power of 100 watts, then we can connect 10 meters of 12V tape to it (100 watts of the dimmer divided by 10 W / m of the tape). We can connect 20 meters of 24V LED strip to the same dimmer, since at this voltage its output power will be 200 watts, which, in large projects, will reduce the amount of equipment and simplify the control system.
- With identical consumption parameters, in most cases, the 24-volt model will shine brighter.
- The probability of buying a high-quality 24V LED strip is significantly higher, since in most cases it is made by large and experienced manufacturers with a wide range of products and an established quality control system. Small and novice manufacturers in most cases produce only 12V models.
Application of 24V LED strip
If you are planning lighting for your apartment or house, expecting to receive high-quality and reliable light, want to minimize its maintenance - the right choice will be 24V LED strip.
Lighting in suspended ceilings, in entertainment venues, shops and shop windows.
The application of 24V LED strip is very wide and varied, and the choice of this voltage is obvious, except for some options described below.
12-volt models are more often used where there is initially no other voltage. For example, in cars, as emergency lighting powered by batteries, as a portable or temporary light source, etc.
